What an incredible day it was in La Broquerie, with the Rustic Wedding Barn standing like an old friend, quietly keeping track of all the love that’s passed through its doors over the years. On that warm June afternoon, it was finally Andrea and Eric’s turn to say “I do.”
Their journey to the altar was anything but straightforward. Originally, they’d planned their wedding before the pandemic even hit. Then came the never-ending date changes, thanks to a certain global event we’re all a little too familiar with. But neither of them lost heart—or their sense of humour—through it all.
Somewhere in the middle of all the rescheduling, we became more like friends than photographer and clients. Andrea offered to help my dad with physiotherapy (despite never having met him!), and Eric saved me from a disastrous kitchen floor situation. Their kindness floored me—no pun intended—and it really set the tone for our time together.
Before the big day finally arrived, we had a series of shoots: a fun fall engagement session, some “save the new date” photos (because, you know, pandemic), and then a gorgeous pre-wedding session downtown at sunset. That last one was extra special. They did their “first look” in full wedding attire right in that dreamy golden-hour glow, and it was pure magic.
Speaking of magic, I got roped into a very unexpected role on their wedding day: singing for Andrea as she walked down the aisle. So, picture this: me up front, camera gear everywhere, one hand on a mic, trying not to miss a beat. Add in the Luminous String Quartet and my friend Jen’s harmonies, and it was definitely one of the more memorable moments of my career.
After that musical interlude, the ceremony unfolded in a way that just felt…real. There wasn’t a dry eye in the barn. Andrea and Eric’s vows were heartfelt and personal—not a single cliché in sight. Once they kissed (and everyone cheered), we headed into the barn for dinner and speeches. I have to give them props for the table décor: each table had a photo collage of the guests seated there, which was such a sweet, personal touch.
As the evening wore on, the dance floor took over. People laughed, cried (happy tears!), and danced until the sun finally dipped below the horizon. If one thing stuck with me, it’s how Andrea and Eric’s story is about pushing through the unexpected and leaning on each other—and their friends—every step of the way.
Here’s to Andrea and Eric: proof that love (and a decent amount of patience) can handle just about anything. Cheers to them and the brilliant memories they created that gorgeous day.
